Matamata Civic and Memorial Centre – Te Whare Whakamaharatanga o te Hápori o Matamata-Piako is home to the districts memorial centre, council reception and offices, public library and meeting rooms. Foundation stones from the original civic building have been used in the new build, as well as local Hinuera stone, working in harmony to create a landmark building for the area.

As a team we found that working on a heritage project which meant so much to the community - and was to be a functional community facility - was heart-warming and gratifying. 

While it was a Council project for the community, District Plan rules still apply, and in this case, matters such as noise needed to be resolved to ensure that nearby neighbours would not be affected by music events and the like.
