Having the opportunity to provide specialist services on an ongoing nature not only strengthens Client relationships, but allows us to keep the bigger picture in mind. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Hamilton is one of our long standing clients and we have worked on a number of projects with them, in relation to the redevelopment of the Catholic precinct in Hamilton East.

One of the projects undertaken saw us preparing and submitting a contentious and challenging resource consent application. After public notification and a Commissioner run hearing, resource consent was issued for site redevelopment. The resource consent was appealed, however approval was upheld by Environment Court. Part of this project was the strengthening and enhancement of St Mary’s Chapel so it could be re-opened for public entry.

Our latest success was to obtain resource consent to establish a new presbytery within the Catholic precinct, where several pertinent matters needed to be worked through, including ecological, geotechnical and flood hazard. Iwi consultation was also key in this project with the presbytery being built in a gully area. Significant conservation works will be undertaken to offset the potential ecological effect.
